ESOS - the next phase (and SECR)
Companies with 250 or more staff or a turnover of £44m and balance sheet of £39m can begin their Energy Efficiency Directive Article 8 (aka ESOS) Phase 2 Audit now.
Phase 2 has already begun. According to the Environment Agency, "organisations that qualify for phase 2 (if you were in Phase 1, you will likely be in phase 2), should start to work on their ESOS audits and commence finding energy savings opportunities now".
The next ESOS deadline is 5 Dec 2019 but data for total energy consumption can commence from 1st January 2018.
"Commencing now will avoid the pressures and additional costs that were incurred due to shortage of Lead Assessors during Phase 1".
There are still only around 100 ESOS Lead Assessors accredited to one of the three recognised qualifying bodies (Energy Institute, CIBSE or UKAEE).
CLS Energy recognise the benefits to all of conducting ESOS audits early. As such, we are offering a 20% discount for organisations embarking upon, and signing up to a fixed price proposal by the end of November.
Total Energy Consumption (TEC) data must include 31st December 2018 so the earliest this 12 months of data can commence is 1st January 2018. Where an energy use will be part of the Significant Energy Consumption (SEC). This will be based on any 12 month period of data between 6th December 2014 and 5th December 2019, provided it is not the same year used in Phase 1 audits.
From April 2019, all ESOS companies and smaller “large” companies must calculate and include energy usage and carbon emissions data in their annual accounts filed at Companies House annually under Streamlined Energy and Carbon Emissions Reporting (SECR).
For ESOS Companies, we can provide this service. For around 4,000 UK companies this will e entirely new. These large companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) are defined under the Companies Act 2006 as meeting two of the three conditions below:
